I'm ready for the announcements of chaos, yes.

Though this snow has been firmly and clearly predicted and should take no-one by surprise.

The equipment level *is* a problem...
Because the demands are so unpredictable year-on-year.
Millions of pounds of snow clearing machines sitting doing nothing for years would generate stories on "council waste", at the least. If heavy snow came every year it would, somewhat perversely, be easier to budget and prepare for.

Since I'm not at work tomorrow, I plan to go out and enjoy it.

As much as I love Britain (being very patriotic and all) I have to admit that we are the worst country in the world at dealing even the mildest adverse weather conditions.

I spent a year in Japan and can you guess how many times buses and trains were delayed by snow or cold weather?

Not once. I only had to wait for a late train on two seperate occasions (which were due to suicides, not the weather).

Having said that, I'm rather looking forward to having the day off due to the fact that none of the kids or other staff at my school can get there, due to the travel chaos that a light dusting of snow can cause.

us Brits have suffered bad weather for years - but we are NEVER ready for it - snow just causes bedlam - the roads are terrifying since the people on them try and drive like mad people to get home before everyone else, therefore causing an accident which keeps us all at a standstill making it take even longer, you've got the people that drive at 2 miles an hour crapping their pants that they might crash - those angry people that think they are invincible and the snow does not affect their driving ability at all!!

how I prepare myself for the snow - well I won't even go to work tomorrow - I won't put myself through the harrowing journey to work only to make the same harrowing journey back again - I shall have the heating on ALL day - I shall drink hot drinks, play with my cats in the snow, wear a warm jumper, put the electric blanket on in bed and quite possibly build a snow man should it be snowy enough!! I also make sure I have a nice supply of cigarettes, water, book and a blanket in my car just in case I DO have to drive and I do get caught in snow!!

We rarely get snow so aren't likely to learn how to drive in it. That is why it tends to be chaos and why you are told not to make unnecessary journeys. The country did have heavier falls in the past but it should be obvious why there was no chaos. People did not have cars unless rich and most walked to work. nowadays people are seemingly incapable of walking more than half a mile and use the car! We also live further from our places of work and if people can't get there the businesses can't operate.

Just hopes it does not start before I leave work.
Nobody knows how to drive in the snow any more.
I can rember the snow in 1963 but could not make the most of it as I has chicken pox so was off school any way.
We had proper snow that lasted for what seemed for ever,
Thats global warming for you,we are either to hot,wet or windy.

Its weird, years ago Britain would have over a foot of snow and things carried on as normal! Nowadays, we expect two inch's and the whole country sh*ts itself!
"Only make journeys if necessary". Why? In case I get lost on the British tundra? Hardly.

We will be as ready as ever, which means very little.

The only ones likely to be prepared are the newspaper headline writers who will cart out the same "Snow Causes Chaos" rubbish we get every time.
