Make sure the coolant is full.

Is the temp gauge for the engine temp reading normal?

Most newer cars don't use valves for the hot water going to the heater core, they use a blend door inside the ducting to direct heat over the heater or A/C coils. It is usually located above the passenger's feet, on the output side of the blower motor.

If you can see the water hoses going from the engine to the firewall which feed the heater core, touch them, they should both be warm if the engine is.

If they are, the blend door is stuck in the cold position. It is controlled by either a cable or vacuum via the temp control. I believe yours is vacuum operated. Maybe the diaphragm is leaking and won't pull the door completely to the hot side.

If it does it all the time I don't know what it is. If it does it just some of the time, spontaneously try replacing the HAL effects sensor on the distributor. I had an earlier ford that played up for six months, I replaced this and that and it seemed to come and go, it was driving me insane. Then an auto electrician fixed it in a hour. He said all fords do it eventually. Worth a try.

FIRST and foremost, DON'T and I will say again DON'T go back to that shop. They already have shown me that they do NOT know what they are doing. My first guess is your thermostat is gone. It needs replacing. BUT before you even check this check to make sure your water level is up to the proper level. If your water (anti-freeze) is low this will effect your vehicle temp. But as a rule it is usually the thermostat. If it isn't either one of these then take it to a shop. But NOT the one you went to. Good Luck.

It's either the coolant level is low, or you have a bad thermostat. In either case, it's just a matter of a few minutes, and the thing will be heating up just the way you like...

Mine does this all the time, mine is leaking anti-freeze. Just put some in there. If you dont have any just throw some water in there for now and see if it works.
