Well, the sun doesn't stop shining. It's the earth's rotation around the sun that limits how much time we see the sun in 24 hours.

well it shines 24 hours a day 7 days a week but when it goes dark the sun goes to the other side of the earth

Well, it is always shinning because it depends on where in the world you are.
Right now, here it's summer, so I see it shinning from 7am till 8pm approx. In winter, it's from 7:30 till 6:30 approx...

From dawn till dusk. Which pretty much covers the entire day. It's a time zone thing.

Wait lol no..the sun of course shines 24 hours, but we only see get to see 12 hours of sunlight..the rest of the 12 hours is moonlight. (The actual "light" from the moonlight though, also comes from the sun.)
