Depends on what you mean by cleaning...

Externally you just need to use a damp cloth and maybe cotton buds to get between the keys. Turn it upside down and tap on the keys to relase all the toast crumbs that accumulate there...

If you mean removing all the programs you have installed, you would be better off reformatting the hard drive. Make sure you "burn" your inf, sytem, system32 and help folders to a cd first. That way all the drivers needed will be on the disc, but you may still have to search for them as windows will not know where to "look".

Time consuming I know, but it will speed up your lappy and remaove all the unwanted stuff.

First make sure u have all the disks u need with drivers n windows then make sure u back up onto cd anything u dont want to lose then once done all that format the laptop install windows then install ur drivers and ur have a fresh laptop with nothing on like when first got it, but do make sure u have all drivers n so or will have to do things the long painful way like gettin drivers off the internet n when doin that need to have model n make of each bit of hardware u need to find drivers for. If dont want to format then can find some programs that help uninstall programs without leaving a mess good site for them is www.download.com

If dont have a windows disk with ur laptop did u get a manufacturer's recovery/reinstallation CD/DVD if got one of them they normally have all the drivers u need aswell

To completely reformat your PC Hard drive & re-install windows from scratch:

Backup ALL your Windows files to DVD-R's or an external USB Hard Drive or High Capacity Flash Drive FIRST because you'll have a tough time installing the drivers for your hardware otherwise.

Then if your PC didn't come with a Windows XP Installation Disc; search for a folder in Windows called I386. Include hidden files & folders in your search by clicking on the "advanced options" button & in folder options click "show hidden files & folders". In there should be a WINNT32.exe, double click it to start the installer (if it says that your windows is different, then go into control panel, add or remove software/programs, & uninstall windows xp service pack 2 or 3). You will need to activate Windows XP though after 30 days (I did mine last night; it's free to phone & easy to do but when it asks you the questions press the corresponding telephone buttons for: bought pc with windows installed, the copy of windows xp is only on one pc, that you changed the hardware, but you didn't change the motherboard, then your application should be accepted).

Afterwards, to install the Drivers again, you'll need to find the device(s) in Control Panel>System>Hardware Manager, then put the Backup Disc in that you made earlier & select the Disc Drive as the source to look in for the driver(s).

I've just had mine completely stripped down by a person who knows what they are doing. I would recommend it, where my laptop took 20 minutes to boot up, it now takes 40 seconds, it was riddled with viruses, even though I had anti virus on it. I'm forever on the net now because it is so quick. I got mine done by a bloke who works in our IT dept, he did it in his own time and he charged me £50. I though that was brill for what I have now. cheaper than buying a new computer anyhow.

If you have the CD the computer came with to restore it just put it in the CD drive and boot from the CD by pressing the boot option key before windows loads and it should give you instructions. if not and you have an operating system CD ex. (windows xp CD) boot from it and choose install windows. i suggest formatting your main drive (by default it is usually drive C) but be sure you have the CD to reinstall the software before doing this. also save any information you need to CD or DVD.

I used to use baby wipes. Alcohol based works well. Just make sure it's off and the battery is out when you start.
