Should burn like anything else. But it has some problems. First with such a low molecular weight it would have a high vapor pressure (it would want to evaporate very quickly in a hot climate). Second it does not like to stay in a gaseous form in a cold climate. This tendency to be found either a liquid or a gaseous state makes designing the fuel supply system complicated (Also Known As expensive).

Butanol has another problem too. Alpha alcohols hydrolyze with water to from organic acids. Buteric acid has the great distinction of being one of the world’s most stinky compounds. My sense of smell has been pretty much wiped out, but I can still smell this stuff. Some folks say it smells like vomit, others like rotten meat, still others claim it is closest to rancid cheese. In any case, you might try to sell this stuff as fuel, but I don’t think the buyers could get close enough to fill their tanks.
