General screen brightness is all hardware based, and should require a combination keypress of both the FN button (probably located in the lower right corner of the keyboard) and any button that has a character or icon shown in the same color as the characters on the FN button (screen brightness up and down will probably be somewhere in the upper number row).

Aside from that setting, you can change the software-side output that your computer sends to the screen by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting Properties. Pull up the Settings tab and click the Advanced button in the lower right. Look for a tab that has something to do with color or screen output and there should be an option to adjust the brightness. Be warned that messing around with these controls will not have quite the same effect as using the Function keys, as there will also be Gamma and Contrast settings paired with any Brightness control, and all three of them combine to adjust the total look of what's showing on your screen. The Function controls will adjust everything uniformly, while the trio controls will only do so if you're able to adjust the whole group equally.
