There are lots of differences, as well as similarities.

The differences:
Disneyland is in California.
DisneyWorld is in Florida.

Disneyland is the original built in 1955.
DisneyWorld was built in 1971.

Disneyland Resort is much smaller, consisting of only two parks (Disneyland and California Adventure) and one Downtown Disney area.
DisneyWorld is much bigger, consisting of 4 major parks, 2 water parks, and 2 downtown areas.

Disneyland has certain attractions that DisneyWorld doesn't have. And vice versa (WDW has some that DL doesn't have). And some of Disneyland's original attractions are different from WDW's (like Pirates of the Carribean or Haunted Mansion, for example).

Anyway, I could go on and on about these, but you get the picture. =P

Disneyland is the smaller one, and not the original, less things to do. Disneyworld is like a mini world that why they call it Disneyworld. It's like would you rather had the land or the world. I would pick Disneyworld.

The easy differences are: Disneyland is in California, Disneyworld is in Florida. Disneyland is much smaller, with only two small parks, and a couple of hotels. It is surrounded by the downtown area. Disneyworld is MUCH bigger, and in my opinion much more fun. It is a city by itself, with it's own zip code. There are many resorts to stay at (which if you are going, stay in one of the Disney owned resorts on the property. With the perks you get it is worth every penny.) There are also 4 large theme parks, 3 water parks, and hundreds of things to do. I am going with my family for 9 days in April, and we had to make a list of things to see, because it is impossible to see absolutely everything. Best vacation for the money, hands down. Service is second to none, regardless if you are staying at a value resort or one of the deluxe resorts.

DisneyWorld has more parks then Disneyland. disneyland jsut have the basic lands like Tomorrowland, Main Land, Fantasyland, and Frontierland. In DisneyWorld, they have animal kingdom and Epcot. Disneyworld is a much better place to explore and more acres to follow. I think in order for anyone to explore the whole park, they have to come back and do it in separate intervals. Disneyworld is so expensive.
