Without a doubt stupidity is more common now than in 1957. The headlong rush to possess property of all kinds rather than saving up your money until you can afford to buy it is leading our society on a downward spiral to disaster. By creating money that does not exist by unlimited credit puts enormous strains on the financial institutions and can only end in disaster when banks and the like crumble under the pressure. Is that stupid or not?

People nowadays are more of a lot of things than fifty years ago: selfish, dishonest, immoral, depraved. Smarter? Sure. They know how to be all of those things more than folks back in the day. Modern man has turned them into an art form, to be worshipped and envied. Just take a look at Donald Trump. Most people want to be him and admire him at the same time.

Definitely more stupid nowadays!! The point where you have to pass a qualification has lowered. I am doing a Bsc in Social Work, to pass I just have to get 40% ?
The standard of education was far better even when I was at school (20 years ago). I think you just have to look at the grammar and spelling on this site for my point to be proved.

One third of employers have to give their staff remedial lessons in basic English and maths, a survey suggests.
One in five employers said non-graduate recruits of all ages struggled with literacy or numeracy, the Confederation of British Industry poll found.
A construction firm's personnel manager said: "The standard of literacy shown by people filling in the double-sided application form for a trainee position is often very poor.
"Many applicants can't construct a sentence and their grammar, handwriting and spelling are awful."

Supposed to be smarter, but can't compare two very different societies, where different things - skills are needed. They also might not have been "smart" in the same way that being smart is considered today.

Well, there is no way to scientifically measure intelligence from dead people and we haven't had the IQ test for very long.
But here's an interesting factoid for you. In the days of the very first monasteries in Europe if a man wanted to become a monk, he had one simple test to pass. He had one year to memorize the COMPLETE book of Psalms, come back, and recite them all.
So what do you think?

No, but I'm certain that the bulk of our 'educated' people today are less well educated than the people of fifty years ago. Admittedly more people today have an education but you have to ask: is what's going really worth having?

The majority seem to be quite definitely less intelligent rated on an average sampling and ironically perverse as it may be; they seem to be far more highly educated at a younger age on an average. It is something that causes me to worry about the implied trend...
