i depends on what you are going to use it for. it's a very general question...sorry

If you prefer functionality over battery life, get a Gateway, HP, or Acer. If you want long battery life, get a Sony Vaio. If you want something that'll crank out the graphics on complex video games, prepare to hand over your wallet to the likes of Alienware or Falcon. If you want something that'll look pretty while running Photoshop, go with a Macbook. Avoid Compaq and Dell.
