The law of conservation of momentum states that momentum of a system is conserved in the direction along which linear impulse is zero.(gravity neglected)

eg. in a head on collision between two balls the only force is the
normal force b/w the balls,which is the internal force.
Thus linear impulse of system is 0,and linear momentum is
conserved.

law of conservation of momemntum states that the momentum before clash/collission is equal to the momentum after collission.

momentum=volocity X mass

thats all..u can make it big.but this is the simplest way to describe it.
