Well in the 50's and 60's having large families in the US was considered acceptable. What's the difference now...those large families were taken well care of within the family and not off the government. Now some people have as many babies as they can so that Section 8 will pay for their 7 bedroom house while others are trying to figure out how to eat.

The other thing that is causing overpopulation is the great world of technology and medical advances.

I would never take away a women's right to have babies however, I think laws should be in placed and enforced for women who are having crack babies and alcohol fetal syndrome babies over and over again. Also, if we limit the amount of welfare being paid then women may be detoured from having 6 children when the state will only finance 2. The children aren't to blame...its the mothers and fathers carelessly having babies and having no means to support them.

Look, I saw some of the answers and they are pretty dumb...like: Cultures that have no birth control pills...Other cultures, unlike some...ermm...you know who I am talking about, dont have F-A-G-G-O-T-S and C-A-R-P-E-T-L-I-C-K-E-R-S so the have sex with the opposite sex, and they want to have children, there is no such thing as over population, because over population is having too much people, and there is never too many. But there is indeed an overpopulation of Mr. I get ****** in the *** and Fudge packers, the rate should be 0 disgraces of nature out of 7 billion

i think its definately a lack of education and social awareness. having large families especially in countries where disease, and instability exists in the third world eg is proving a great strain on those countries. in this country, many people are working and provide for their own families, but the problems lie with those that are intent on having more kids whilst living off the state. they are the problem people who are burdening are country as well as adding to the overpopulation uncecessarily. again its sheer ignorance, poor education and no common sense!

Cultures who do not have the access, money, or knowledge to use birth control

Edit: they've tried giving birth control to people in 3rd world countries, but women see those packets of pills, and they maybe haven't eaten for days. Would you take one tiny pill per day or would you want to take the whole thing just to have something in your stomach? That's what we were taught in my health class, anyway.

People insisiting on "leaving something of themselves behind". What a ridiculous notion.

(From someone who simply cannot understand the desire to have a brat running around destroying your stuff...)
