The history of shaving legs goes back a good way, but it can be summarized through this - in the days when women fought for the attention of the prominent male they needed to find every possible advantage they could to bring themselves up and above the others. Make-up was one way to do this and it rapidly became clear that men liked *smooth* skin, so those women who shaved their legs gained an advantage over the others when looking for the *alpha* mate.
Times have changed but the legacy remained. I think there is nothing wrong with a man wanting to shave his legs if he is unhappy with the way he looks/feels, just like it is the right of a woman to not shave her legs if she does not want to. The consequence is that because of what we consider to be attractive, such a decision can set the individual at a social disadvantage when confronted with more *conservative* people.

Many men do shave their legs, especially sports men.
Personally, I like to leave a little hair so trim my leg hair in half an hour using a Remington body hair trimmer.

I used to be a swimmer & so for big meets i used to 'shave down' in the hope that it might shave (no pun intended) a few hundredths of a second off my time. I wouldn't dream of doing it now though! It's a bit too poncy!

I personally like it when men shave their legs because it's smoother and feels better to the touch obviously. People who think that shaved legs are only for gay guys, are just ignorant and need to grow up. It has nothing to do with manliness. Ladies, think about it, would you rather be in bed and feel smooth legs next to you, or yucky hairy legs rubbing against your legs while you sleep? hahahah exactly.

I want to know as well. I had a boyfriend who freaked out if he felt one hair or a little stubble on my legs. Then he would complain that I didn't shave because he always expected my legs to be soft and hairless like a baby's. So I always wanted to know from him why doesn't he shave his hairy legs, or better, wax it. I will also check his legs everyday and complain that he didn't shave.

In the current cold weather outside my crude, cave dwelling, I am reminded why us chaps like to remain hairy. I've found it's also jolly useful to rub bear fat into the hairs, which helps with the insulation and glossiness of my skin! Recently though I am tending to stand down wind of 'her indoors', which, I have discovered, tends to improve the marriage relationship.

Some men are comfortable with their sexuality, others aren't. Some men find that body hair makes them feel more manly. It's a social construct. Maybe if the world turns to swimmers, metrosexuals and gays then this question won't come up. But for the most part, yeah, it definitely gives them public manhood.

Bodybuilders do but that is because they are in competition to showcase their muscle structure. The average Joe does'nt have the time or the inclination to do such a thing unless they are either involved in certain sports or have some bizarre double life.

I don't know why men don't shave their legs, but I DO know why women don't want them to:
Because hair on a guy is manly and sexy. It's what makes men different to us, and it's fascinating.
I personally like a bit of chest hair too- not a rug, but a bit to tug on. ;)
If you shave your legs cos you are a cyclist or something: fine. But otherwise, embace the hairiness!
Also, if i go a few days without shaving my legs, the guy I'm cuddled up to in bed will be able to feel it if HE is hairless! And that just makes life more difficult than it's meant to be!
