To cover up his failure in Iraq. Did we forget the main reason Bush invaded Iraq was his supposed claim that there were weapons of mass destruction there? There has not been one iota of a WMD found there but because of Bush's rash decision we cant just leave Iraq because that would turn the country into another post war Afghanistan with the Taliban running amok. This is a no win situation that Bush has put us in and has caused us our money and lives for the people that served there.

The purpose? Really dude you have to wake up.... There's no "war" there....only money and power over poor people. So many men and women are beeing killed everyday -from both sides- and for what?
I think that every President or Prime Minister should first deal with poverty and crime in their own country, state etc. (New Orleans, London e.g.) and then AND ONLY THEN mess in other countries...

It costs a lot of money to maintain an army anywhere. And, don't doubt it, it will cost a lot more to pull them out. Being in the Marine Corps i think it is a good thing. I think he should do whatever it takes for us to succeed in Iraq. We have lost a lot of men over there.
