AVG is supposed to have been finished as a free Anti-Virus program since the 15th January this year, or so it said.
UPDATE (Quote from website):
GRISOFT today announced the extension of user product support for AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.1 through February 18, 2007. Product support for users of version 7.1 had been scheduled to expire on January 15th. This change will provide additional time for users to upgrade to AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5 or other AVG products. http://www.grisoft.com/doc/1

Formatting your pen drive won't do you any good, the virus is probably in the system. Avira is very good, free, and powerful. Most people will say get AVG, but that's bad, it's for noobs.

Having got fed up paying for Norton I now use Avira AntiVir which is available free from:
www.free-av.com
It is a German system, but it has a good English interface. for additional security you might also want to consider downloading:
Spybot Search and Destroy
Spywareblaster
Ad-Aware
All free and all protect against spyware.
