The big difference straight off is that they;re not interchangable in any way. Your motherboard will have either an AGP slot (probably AGP 8x) or a PCI-e slot (probably PCI-e 16x). I don't think I've ever seen a board with both so one or the other

The PCI-e slot is newer and as mentioned allows more data to go to the card per second so gives the card more to work on and hence (if coupled with good Graphics memory and Graphics Processor) better graphics.

PCI-e will be more expensive most likely as AGP is being phased out. But using the two in day to day life is no different, it's only system design and installation that's different (and installation is only different because you put it in a different socket).

So as to what you should do:

1. Do more research - No disrespect to you but are you sure you're armed with enough information to make this decision based upon what you hear here? If in doubt abuse someone at a computer place and ask for information then do it yourself

2. If you wish to go ahead - Establish wheter your motherboard has a PCI-e or AGP slot. As a very rough guide, if it was bought more than about a year and a half ago it is most likely AGP but your manual should tell you, otherwise look at the board itself and compare with pics on the internet or Google your motherboard and look for key phrases like PCI-e and AGP.

3. If its an AGP board consider if its worth upgrading at all or just sit using your current one until you upgrade both your motherboard as well

4. Relax, it's not that bad. =)

Probably PCIe. But check with the programs you will be using to ensure they deliver on that platform.

PCIe transfers data at 250 MB/s per lane. With a maximum of 32 lanes, PCIe allows for a total combined transfer rate of 8 GB/s. To put these figures into perspective, a single lane has nearly twice the data rate of normal PCI, a four lane slot has a comparable data rate to the fastest version of PCI-X, and an eight lane slot has a data rate comparable to the fastest version of AGP.

Performance is the Big difference the streaming of video in PCI Express is much faster than AGP, and AGP is old PCI is new technology i prefer PCI Express over AGP.

Make sure your motherboard can support the PCI-E card if you have an older board most likely it will not. You can pick up a new card at http://www.gamegiants.net at a good price

all the above correct, you BASICLY want to have PCI-E. but the real question is what your motherboard support? if it is not support PCI-E then you can only use AGP.
