Most people would probably say USA. But think of it this way, they have hundreds of competitors in almost every sport you can think, because of the fact that the population is about 250 million itself. But they still lose to other countries in Baseball, Ice Hockey, Rugby, Boxing, or whatver else.... What about Australia? I dunno. Tell me what you think...

On the entire planet 'Cricket' has been a revolutionary game.Although it is from a village origin, it managed to spread in all parts of the globe. Year by year teams sre joining the ICC (International Cricket Conference). In India where it developed and was plated by the British to divide the Indian on the basis of the communities, is now more famous than the national game.
Now the Indian Cricketers are the best paid in the world.
Taking example of its expandness we can see that in 1975, when the first World Cup was played only 8 teams played whereas now 16 teams play and Bermuda is going to join from 2007. Even America, known for its Base Ball and Rugby is now interested in playing Cricket and is preparing a team.China is also in the race.
So, I believe that Cricket is the most successful game on the globe.

I don't believe there is one single country that dominates the international sports world.

Yes, Australia is a powerhouse for Rugby, India for Cricket, etc. but I can't think of any country that truly dominates a majority of sports across the board. The closest I would think to have ever come close to that would be the Soviet Union, and even then it was mostly Olympic competition.

As far as the USA, competively, no we do not dominate the world sports stage. But, professionally (and this is proven most recently buy the purchase of Becks) we do dominate in acquiring the worlds greatest talents.

Let Spike TV start a cricket program or rugby program (god I wish they WOULD) and you'll see our country stealling the talents from those sports as well.

USA is good. But I think China is better. I guess, right now USA is #1 since all of the olympic medals, etc... But if you think about it, most of the medals are from several events from 1 or 2 sports -- I don't know why they give out few dozen medals for track and field, and few more for swimming and only one for team sports like basketball, baseball, etc.? I think they should give 1 medal for overall winner of track and field, etc... Then that would even things out... Lol...
The reason I believe China is better? Right now, they don't have the technology or money to compete with USA. But look at when the Chinese started competing. They were nobody just few decades ago and now, they're like #2 or 3? So in few years, I think USA will have hard time being the #1...
