Joe Lieberman is one of the few democrats I agree with usually, but this time he has gone back to his leftist roots. Why is it that the democratic party wants to take your money away. We can afford this by taking money away from other programs. Do you know how much money the U.S. gives to National Public Radio or the Public Broadcasting System. These outlets are obsolete. Let them just have commercials and pay for themselves, if they are worth it, they will survive. Also, the National Endowment for the Arts, what a crock. Why does the federal government have to pay for artists. When they sell their "works of art" (the few that can sell), they never pay it back.
We just need to cut back on the nonsense.

No, I wouldn't. I think we pay enough federal taxes. The way to finance any defense against terrorism is to not support the $350 billion that Bush proposes for Iraq and Afghanistan through 2008. I also wouldn't support the surge of 21,500 troops. It's a foolish plan, and another boneheaded move by this administration. It's just going to get more Americans killed. Iraq's problems are their's, not our's. It's their civil war. When they tire of killing each other, their struggles will be settled. Lieberman tries to play both sides of the fence, and it won't work. If the administration and Congress need funds to combat terrorism, the first move Congress should do is to take a drastic paycut. If we did our jobs like they've all done, we'd be fired.

No, I don't like how my tax money has been spent combating terrorism so far. This administration has been cutting taxes. If the money is absolutely necessary, I'd want the government to raise the general taxes, and then spend the additional revenue on the war on terrorism. There is no need for a special tax. The war on terrorism should have compete with everything else for funding and shouldn't be given a blank check.

NO, our government knows how to start taxing, but doesn't know how to stop. Spanish American War Tax. Need I say more.
And for those of you who don't:
The tax came about after Teddy Roosevelt nuked Mexico in the Spanish American war as a luxury tax on the rich to help pay for high military spending. Since then, the Treasury has been making a windfall on it, generating $5.9 billion in 2005 alone. The tax is a pretty significant 3% of your telephone bill and you will be able to claim it since 2003 on your 2006 tax forms.
May 25, 2006 the tax ended after 108 years. And besides the deficit is shrinking and on-track to be balanced by 2012. So the fat cats should stop funding projects like the "Big Dig".

Lieberman's only interest is for the good of Israel !!
I don't want to sound anti-sementic but he has pushed this war from day one and has sided with Bush. I suppose he is going on the assumption that if we are taxed on this crazy war it will provide our war machine with unending funds that really doesn't have to come before Congress to be approved thereby giving Israel the protection that it needs in the middle east. He relishes his role as "Independent Joe" !!!

We already pay that tax.
What we need to do is get rid of the Grants for Higher Education Tax and the Funding for Medical Research Tax.

Yes, if it actually went to the war on terrorism. Who's the p+ussy that's going to whine about some minor tax to help defend the country they claim to love so much?

It depends on who's running the war on terrorism. The current administration has wasted billions of dollars (and worse, lives) invading Iraq when they had little or nothing to do with our terrorism problem.

Leave it to Lieberman to push for yet ANOTHER tax.
However, if he would like to tax the hell out of his State of Connecticut and send the proceeds to the Federal Government, he is certainly entitled to do so.
And has my full support.
