it should the RX-8 is what has the rotary motors not RX-7

LOL.

first off, the second guy: The RX8 and RX7 both have rotaries. thats what the R stands for.

Second, the rotary engine is volumetrically small (small displacement), but the engine itself isnt that small. they do tons of LS1 and 5.0 swaps into RX7s.

now onto the real questions
What generation RX7? there were several.

why would you want an EVO motor in there? theyre small and with much tuning dont have a very good powerband compared to the other engines available that fit (like LS1s, and 5.0s). Why start with a 2.0L engine instead of a 5.7L?

what transmission would you use? The EVO is an AWD and the geometry wouldnt really work in an RX7. Youd have to find a new tranny for it.

you dont put turbo on an engine. you put A turbo, its a part. The EVOs engine already is turbocharged. You may have to route the piping differently, but thats all. Nitrous doesnt take up any room in the engine bay. The tank uses some room in the trunk, then you need the timing retarding on the ECU, and just some small hoses to the intake. Upgrades generally replace parts, not add new ones.

the EVO engine already has too much stress on it to get too much use out of using nitrous on without running race gas or doing some serious internal modifications and compression drops, not to mention a very nice standalone ECU.

this swap would cost you prob 10x what its worth due to the amount of custom fab youd need for it, and overall would be a terrible idea considering how much easier LS series engines are to install, and how much more powerful they are, not to mention they already have a RWD tranny for them, and people have done the swap many times, so theres info on it.

and learn to spell. Spase? lets be serious. SPACE.

Not easily.
The RX7's rotary engine is mounted longitudinally in the engine bay, with the gearbox behind it, in classic read-wheel-drive format.
The EVO is based on the front-wheel-drive Mitsubishi Lancer, with the engine mounted transversely, and the gearbox on the end.
Also the EVO engine is a lot longer than the RX7's rotary engine.
Converting the EVO engine's mounting points to fit transversely, and altering all the ancilliaries, intake and exhaust systems, etc. to fit in a completely different package would be very complicated.

If you must fit a non-rotary engine in an RX7, find one that is normally mounted longitudinally. Something shorter and lower than an in-line four might also be an advantage. I'd be tempted to look at a v6 - perhaps Nissan's 3.5-litre as used in the 350Z, or Audi's 2.7 turbo from the previous-generation A6 and RS4.

I can understand tuners in the USA fitting the v8 from a Corvette as there are plenty available there, but that wouldn't be my choice - its character is too different from the RX7, too heavy, too easy-going, not light, delicate and rev-hungry.

However, I can't really see the point in any of this - the whole point of the RX7 is its rotary engine, and without that you might as well just go for the 350Z or the Corvette, or the EVO, and have the engine you want in the car that it belongs in.

You can fit it but it's not a good swap idea. Someone put a supra engine in an rx7 once but it is really not worth the trouble. You are better off getting a 3 rotor engine but if you or someone you know is not familiar with rx7's then this car will be nothing but problems for you. This is a car for a pro tuner. Rx7's come into my shop all the time and I blow them out because they take up too much time to repair and a dealership really can't devote that kind of time when we have strict deadlines to meet. So you must go to a rotary specialist's shop and they are not cheap.

the rx7 motor is crap and everyone knows that. yea it's rotary and all the dumb stuff and you can throw alot hp in it. but IT"S NOT A RELIABLE ENGINE. hahaha why would want an Evo engine in a Rx7. come on know think about it. thats just plain dumb. but hey I've seen a 5.0 in a 1993 civic.

PDre is right, an RX7 has a small rotary engine. Mazdas made several RX rotary models, up to the modern RX8.

why? you got a Wankel rotary engine........you can do wonders with that engine. that's if you own the 2nd or 3rd gen RX7.

My buddy's old modded 2nd gen Turbo II RX7 still blows my EVO away.......and my EVO's been nicely modded too.

Uh no! An rx7 has a rotary engine, which is really small!

Fit? Yes. Practical? No. Why would you choose a mitsu motor in a mazda platform? Its much easier to swap in an LS-7 corvette motor, its more reliable and makes much more power and it bolts in fairly easy.

Why would you want to? The RX7 rotary motor is superior.
