It's been four years since I had surgery. I dislocated my knee, andI tore my ACL, LCL, and MCL and had to have the tendon on the front on my knee used to help restore the tendon on the side of my knee. Unfortunately, I still can't put any pressure on this knee. There's too much pain. I walk perfectly fine, but I can't stand on my knees or anything like that. I'm only 22! Are there any exercises that could help strengthen the weakened area, or am I up the creek without a paddle?

Hi Ra, You can get a exercise bike this is great for movement, and giving a little strength. Buy a stepper. This will be slow until you get your strength. Do leg lifting, this will help to strength your tendons, and other things in your knee, and leg. I have had a total of 3 surgery on my right knee. The first was to go into my knee, and see what was causing all my problems. The ligament that holds you knee, and leg together wasn't there. They had to make one from my upper leg,and put a pin in it to hold it together. The second surgery, was to removed my knee cap.It looks funny, but it works. The third was a total knee replacement. I would not wish that on anyone. The pain is great, and you can hardly use your leg. Alot of hard work, and my leg is working almost all the way. But it took me 1 whole year to get where i am today. So hang in there, and do those exercises, and see if that helps you. remember it will take alot of time before you see a difference. Good Luck My Friend.

I am going through the same thing. I had reconstructive surgery when I was 15 and I'm now 23. I did not tear my MCL, just ACL & MCL. After my first surgery, they did another surgery to manipulate my knee in order to get full extention again. Recently, I felt like I had torn my meniscus again (which was already repaired once), so I went to the doctors. He informed me that I had totally blown out my ACL graft, and more surgery was suggested. I would definately see your orthopeadic surgeon so that he can examine you further and order an MRI if needed. Good luck!

EVERYONE I KNOW PERSONALLY THAT HAS HAD KNEE SURGERY IS GOING THRU EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE...I THINK SOMETIME ITS BETTER LEFT ALONE THAN HAVE THE SURGERY... TWO OF MY HUSBANDS HAD THE SURGERY AND THEY WERE BIKERS THAT COULD NOT START THERE BIKES AGAIN. HIS SURGERY WAS HIS RIGHT LEG AND FROM THEN ON HE HAD TO KICK IT OVER WITH HIS LEFT LEG..THATS OVER THIRTY YEARS AGO AND HE STILL CANT USE HIS LEG RIGHT..GOOD LUCK TO YOU........

Maybe you should ask your doctor if this is normal. And call your physical therapist for exercises. I'm sorry you're in pain.
