You have a similar situation like me, a year ago my buffalo jumped inside my aquarium, and to bring him out one of my parakeets also jumped in after it, and to bring the parakeet out one of my rottweilers also jumped in..unfortunately none could swim in that deep tank and all drowned.
Later my guppies and goldfishes ate them and the skeletons are still visible on the tank bottom, which I am now using for aeration purpose by fitting them with a pump and air pipe...
Happy to find your match ?

Hopefully you mean a catfish....
Your catfish may have died from a parasite or a disease. By allowing your cichlids to eat him, you are essentially passing whatever disease he had to the cichlids. Dead fish in an aquarium also adds ammonia to the water. If a fish dies in your aquarium, it is best to remove it right away.

Take the cat out, leaving it in will create more ammonia then your fish can handle. Unless you have alot of de-ammonia-tor take the cat out, how did your cat get in the tank anyway? don't you have a lid on your aqurium? If you dont you should.

Mmmm, I don't like cats, so I say take it out and flush it, otherwise the fish may suffer from the ammonia spike. LOL. Now stop wasting my time. :P

I will assume you're not cracking wise and are referring to a catfish. If it's fairly large and won't be consumed within 24 hours, remove it or it will begin to rot and compromise your water quality.
