Blood in stool is never a good sign especially the amount that you described. The trickiest part is that he doesn't have health insurance. To be honest, bloody stool can mean several different things. With the amount of described bleeding, that there may be hemorrhaging somewhere within the digestive tract. Since the blood was somewhat dark could mean that there may be something wrong within the small intestine or in the beginning of the large intestine. The color of the blood from the stool can be a huge diagnostic tool since the longer the blood has to travel through the digestive tract (intestines) to the colon, the darker the color of the blood will be. For example, if it is so dark that it is almost black... it may be blood from the stomach... possibly from an ulcer or if the blood is bright red, then it can be something as simple as a hemorrhoid. Either way, it would be best for your boyfriend to see a doctor... they may be able to catch what it is before it gets worse or if it isn't something very serious he can at least have some peace of mind. I hope everything turns out okay for him.

Well, there are alot of reasons why blood would be in the stool.

If the stool is black in color, that would suggest digested blood, which would mean that he would have problems in his digestive tract such as stomach ulcers, etc.

If he is passing blood ( red blood in the toilet bowl ) while eliminating, then that could possibly be a hemorroid that is bleeding. Sometimes when a person uses the toilet alot, perhaps if they have Irritable Bowel Syndrome, or Cholitis, they tend to inflame the hemorroid and it will cause a little, to alot of bleeding depending on how bad it is.

Since he has not been checked by a doctor, it might be a good idea to do so. I realize that insurance is a concern, but if he has a serious problem inside of his colon or digestive system, it would be a good idea to diagnose it now. Perhaps you can work some kind of a payment plan out with a walk-in clinic.

If you insist on not going to the doctor, then try this :

Have him drink apple juice, pruce juice, or take a stool softener for a few days. Perhaps this will help him a bit, and the bleeding might cease. And if the bleeding persists, or gets worse, please take him in for medical treatment, because it might be something that needs immediate care. Don't take chances with his health for the sake of money.

Best wishes.

Light blood in the stool...just a little coupled with constipation is most likely to be homoroids..Now before I go into the worse case scenario...has he been eating something that was red..like red beets,or red cerealor something with red dye in it? Does he have any other complaints? Stomach aches..feeling of having to go to the bathroom some more although he just went, change in stools (Sometimes hard then diarea the next day? Then the
DARK BLOOD is something more serious.. I don't want to scare you,but you need to go and take him to a doc, because it could be something as serious as Colon Cancer. Dark Blood in the stool is never good.. and not something to be played with...
See a DOC today! Who cares about medical bills..this could be a lifethreatening thing...
Sweetie, go take him...

That could be an indicator of a lot of things. He needs to get to the doctor asap. I had a similar problem once, and fortunately it wasn't serious, but I had it checked.
