Uh... what operating system are you using? Linux? Mac? Windows?

That's a start...

I'd just recommend Googling "PC tips tricks" and then reading what you find.
("Googling" something means going to google.com and putting whatever's in the quotes into the box, then hitting [enter] )

My first tip to you - Secure your computer.

1.) Clean out your computer
Download an anti-virus and an anti-spyware program. (These are programs that find the nasties in your computer, stuff that takes over your computer, or spies on you. )
Install them, update them and run them.
* Anti-virus - http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#avg-anti-virus-free
* Anti-spyware - http://www.spybot.info/en/mirrors/index.html

2.)Put up a wall
More specifically, a firewall - it keeps people out of your computer, and lets you know when programs are acting wierd / asking for net access.
* Firewall - http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp

3.)Get better habits
* Surf faster and safer with Firefox (Internet Explorer replacement) - http://getfirefox.com/
* Replace Outlook with Thunderbird (it's more up to date, more customizable and has a better spam filter) - http://getthunderbird.com/

4.) Expand those new and good habits
There are add-ons for the two programs mentioned above, that will make the web much nicer to look around in.
* Adblock Plus - Stops ads from even downloading. Works in both Firefox and Thunderbird- http://adblockplus.org/
* Cookiesafe - Stops sites from putting tiny files on your computer called cookies. Cookies can track what sites you look at. The only sites you need to allow cookies for are sites you sign-in to - like Yahoo. - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2497/
* Noscript - Stops sites from running JavaScripts, which in the wrong hands can mess up a lot of things. - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/722/

5.)Secure the computer itself
Put a password on all of the accounts.
Start > Control Panel > User Accounts > choose your account > Put a password on this account.
Do this for ALL of the accounts!
( > means "and then click on")

Feel free to print this off.
