Alright folks, before I get nailed to the cross as some white racist kkk let me at least explain. Many black people have hair that's very different in texture from everyone else. So they tend to use allot of hair products compared to other people. When it comes to hair care products blacks in North America spend more then any other group. Plus to anyone who has ever dated a black person they would know most black people do not shampoo their hair as often as other people. It dries their hair out. So maybe that sterotype of black people smelling came from the assumption that because they don't shampoo their hair as often they must smell. See where I'm going with this?
Where do you think this specific racist line of thought that all black people smell came from?

Your funny. Your question sounds like it comes from ignorance and not bigotry...Its Ok. I get asked these questions all the time.

How come you dont wash your hair as often?
Is that your real hair?
How Long did that take?
Blah BLah

I know what your talking about "the smell" it comes from hair grease alot of black women use. Some use Dax, african pride, Luster's Pink Lotion etc. As far as being a stench its more of a pleasent smell.

I usually wash my hair once a week. Because as you stated it dries out my hair and retains my natural oils.
Your hair generally should not smell after a week of not washing.

Hey, if you dont wash your hair... it will stink right? That goes for every race. I have smelled foul odours coming from white peoples hair too. Is this not why shampoo is filled with perfumes? If everyone washed their hair with "perfume free" shampoo, I dont think anyone's hair would smell that great.

I own a company,3 of my employees are black.Their hygiene and dress are impeccable.I have never smelled any unpleasant smell from any of them.I don't go around sniffing people anyway.I think it comes from ignorance and nothing more.Another way of trying to act as if black people were in some way inferior to others.

Ive also heard that some black people say that when white people get caught in the rain that they smell like a wet dog? You never know do you .

The truth is clean black people smell good and dirty black people smell bad. The same can be said for Hispanics, whites and any other group of people you want to mention.
The problem arises because dirty people of different races all smell but they do smell differently from each other. The body odor of a dirty person form another race may be more offensive to you because it is different from that of your own.
Clean people smell good and dirty people stink, PERIOD!

How can you generalize. It's never fair to do that.
Sometimes stereotypes can hv some truth to it, but never fall into that trap. Be skeptical. Know from your direct experiences and your sensible thinking mind. Question your own beliefs and perceptions and feelings. Open your mind. We are not all the same, really.

It comes from stupidity. Not all black people smell funny and not all white people smell like cheese and wet dog. All people in general will give of specific odors in specific situations. All people when washed properly will be clean. Again, saying that black people smell is as dumb as the white slave owners saying that blacks are inferior and not human.

Actually, statistically black males spend more on fragrance than any other group. Furthermore, I've never seen any group of men w/ more hair products than white males! As far as where the stereotype comes from-- it comes from people like you that perpetuate it.
