I really really love the Harry Potter books. They are just amazing. I also love the movies. But the books tell so much more. They are just a way to get out of this real life. They have love, they have action and they have friendship.

I'm 23 and I've been in love with the series since I discovered it at 18. It's well written, explores many of the issues preteens an teens face on a daily basis while making them entertaining to read, and the books grow with the characters. I.E. the first book is quite appropriate for an eleven year old (in my opinion) and book 6 is quite not. I think they're imaginative, fun, funny and insightful. The world Rowling has created brings me joy and to tears, and I know that you and I are not alone. My friends and I wait breathlessly for the next installment in the series, along with half the population of the earth. Ok that's an exaggeration but still...
And more than anything I appreciate the fact that these books are encouraging children to read where there has been little interest before. I started reading well before I started school and it was one of the best things that ever happened to me. The books stimulate kid's imaginations and supplement creativity. With the proper guidance, they are wonderful teaching tools. Notice, proper guidance. Parents are a crucial part of kids' reading habits.
That is why I love the series.

You are certainly not the only Harry Potter fan out there as JK Rowling is now a multi-millionaire and that is as a result of the number of book sales (as well as the film deals etc etc). I am 28 and also a big fan.
But I am mad about them because I am a linguist and she uses very clever linguistic ruses in her writing, often using latin roots for the spells and as for Voldemort, this is an anagram of Loved Mort (Mort is the french word for death) so, literally, Loved Death. Clever huh? Plus they are very readable stories.
If you like Harry Potter you should also try the Philip Pullman Northern Lights trilogy. Extremely well-written and great stories too!

I love the books, though I don't know why exactly. The overall storyline's way overused, but for some reason that didn't bother me one bit. Also, it's like the only series of books I can read straight through without looking at the clock. For most books I eventually get tired of reading and stop for the day, but I guess for lack of better words, Harry Potter was interesting enough for me to the point that I keep going and lose track of time lol. It might be her simplistic style of writing.....
But you're not crazy. If you're crazy, then I am too! And I'm constantly reading them as well. My order of the phoenix copy is torn up in the beyond. X_X

I'm not a fan (though I don't dislike the series) I found the writing to be a bit young for me (the difficulty level, as it's geared towards children/teens)
I have found that the series seems predictable and though there are some imaginative things, the plot is rather bland and repetative. The fact that they get a new "Dark Arts" teacher every year, plus the fact that Voldermort (sp?) continues to be a threat and yet no one seems to be doing anything extremely proactive to stop him is a bit illogical to me. (One wizard with some minion, versus all of those wizards and weapons of the human world? Not very believable)
Add to the fact that Harry (and his friends) always just "happen" into all of these situations and adventures and that the books will clearly play out the final battle during their final year...is just way too predictable for my tastes.
I'm glad that these books have spurred children to read more, but in my opinion, they are pretty over rated when it comes to plot and interesting characters.

Yes I like the books and movies too. I am working my way through the books in preparation for the last book. I especially like reading about the author, from rags to a billionaire.
I think a lot of the excitement will die down once the next book is out. I hope they get all seven movies done.

I am as mad about them as much as you are or more - I have read each book at least a dozen times and still can read them again and again though I know them almost by heart now! and I am over 30 - Have thought about why this is so but can't quite figure it out - escapist?
