Most Americans are immigrants. The Native Americans have a very strong sense of history and culture, but the rest of us have uprooted from our homelands and come here. No other nation is so full of people from other countries. It is for this reason we have taken our attention from where we came from and place our attention on where we are now. In 500 years, America will have just as much culture as any other country and this perception will not exist.

I see your point David, all the posts refer only to American history.

Most Americans who are still alive, do not seem to have a family history that has come from the original colonists therefore do not care about our country's history.

History in the United States is taught as means of promoting social agendas instead of as a search for the truth. The teaching is obsessed with the achievements of blacks or women, etc. The overall perspective is lost in the effort to promote social agendas.

Because as a generality we don't feel that we need to know. I think Americans are just kind of ignorant to the rest of the world. (Yes I'm American). Watch for some Canadian or Frenchman start saying its because of George Bush or that we're all fat.

please give details why you think that..
Lets see our history..
We took on with a band of freedom fighters one of the biggest empires in history. and we won.. not on the battlefield (well not totally) but we forced them to second guess their rule.
We stepped in in Europe in WW1 when Germany was about a month from victory.
We gave europe the weapons to defeat hitler.
We stopped the Russians from going to war time and time again.
We have used our super power position to force countries with tyranny wants to back down.
Parts of America have fought for their freedom in many ways.
ANd yet the world looks at us like we haev done nothing.
