I would never run from the police or anything but I was just thinking I wonder how fast of a car you would have to have to be able to just floor it and leave a police car with no chance to keep up. Like what kind of engine do most police cars have and how much hp/tq?

There are many different model cars the police departments are using. They come with different packages depending upon the requirements of their respective departments.

An example of the new Dodge Charger with a police package :

5.7L Hemi with Multi-displacement system- 340hp @5000 rpm and 390 ft lbs torque @4000 rpm.

Ford Crown Victoria- 320 bhp @ 5200 rpm: Torque: 345 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm.

Chevrolet Impala- Horsepower: 320 bhp @ 5200 rpm: Torque: 345 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm. ( Same as Crown Vic )

Dodge Intrepid- ( Not many in use ) - 3.5-liter, 242 hp (at 6,400 rpm) V-6 engine. The 248 lb.-ft. of torque (at a low 3,950 rpm)

Most police vehicles are equipped with beefed up suspensions, electronics, and high speed rated tires. They stand a reasonably good chance at keeping up with most stock model cars. For those who beef up their cars, then of course a police cruiser will not be able to keep up. ( That's why police use helicopters, no matter what you're driving, you can't out run one of those! )

Hope this helps!

Not sure about the hp and tq...but all police vehicles are mostly factory-tuned, with the exception of the civilian cop vehicles, which look like any other car but has a fast engine, usually a DOHC or TwinCam engine.

A stock Police car is pretty fast but a turbo charged Honda will beat one anyday as far as outrunning them , There really is no way because of the technology they have and they can track ya by satelitte now ! I have know people to buy wrecked Police cars just for the police intercepter engine then slam the engin in a mustang ! So they have great engines and are fast cars !

Not fast enough. Most of the ones I talk to wish They had there old LT1 Chevies. And as usual some moron with a Honda thinks his car is untouchable. Put the playstation controls down and get back into the real world.

Well most police cars are Ford Crown Victorias. The civilian versions put out around 260hp. I would assume police interceptor versions are around 260-280.

If you do get the urge to run, bear in mind a helicopter can travel over 100 mph with out having to make any sharp turns, and radio travels at the speed of light.

EDIT: In response to Dirt Bag, Lamborghini donated one car to the Police in Italy, but it is only used to transport organs for emergency transplants.

You've got absolutely no chance against Italian police. Lamborghini donated some Diablos and Countaches to their police force which can reach speeds up to 340 km/h. Nor can you outrun the US police. We may be slower but we have numbers and can be allover you like salt on a peanut if need be.

Police vehicles are generally fairly fast...

Keep in mind, though, it's pretty much impossible to outrun the radio the police car is equipped with...

After appearing some study on the topic evidently as in spite of the undeniable fact that Washington state does no longer have a "SET" maximum velocity a police officer might want to pass, in spite of the undeniable fact that washington state regulation makes the point that police officials might want to stop pursuit if speeds change into extreme adequate to pretty strengthen the possibilities of harm to bystanders. man or woman Departments in spite of the undeniable fact that could want to nevertheless guard the right to set maximum speeds in both a code 4 (all sparkling, organization as frequent) and a Code 3 (lights fixtures, siren on, Chase/pursuit/enroute to scene) difficulty. regularly else in spite of the undeniable fact that an officials own convenience aspect might want to reduce them even more effective so some distance as maximum speeds pass.

I don't know about anywhere else but where I'm from, the police use chevy suburban 4x4's and chevy impalas. Here's the wierd part. The Impalas are governed to 173 km/h while the suburbans have no speed limiter.
