I think that a lot of employees feel that way from time to time, and some all the time. The questions I have for you then are as follows:
1. Why are you working for him then? If You are so smart why aren't you running your own company, - I mean if an "Idiot" like your boss can do it - why not you? (and please none of that old "he inherited it from his dad crap", if that was the case - he would have run it into the groud in a year or two),
2. Why do you feel that you are smater than your boss? What collasal business mistakes has he made , (in your opinion), that have cost the business real profit?). This does not mean ideas on how YOU would do things, - did you ever stop to think that maybe in the 20 years that he's been running the company he hasn't tried the ideas that you think are original to you alone? And found that those brainstorns while sounding good in theory - just didn't work in practice? (I know because I've tried those things over & over every 5 years or so, - thinking that MAYBE THIS TIME IS THE TIME that they will work - sometimes it is ,, most times it's not.
3. Have you ever asked the boss if you could meet with him after work, and talk with him over a beer or two about some ideas and observations you would like to go over with him about the business. Heck - he's got nothing to loose, - why not? If nothing else, you get to show him that you are thinking, that you are not just a shlub working for a paycheck, and that you have an interest in how the business works , (Do you?).
This could be your opportunity to move up, Make the best out of this, Instead of being combative, angry, and sarcastic, treat him with respect - and use this opportunity to learn something. Whether you believe it or not, he deserves your respect and thanks, for he's providing you with a living at present; and if you're getting benefits like health care, 401K, and vacation pay, plus raises you got it a heck of a lot better that a whole lot of people out there my friend.
As long as your name is at the top of the check, and his name is at the bottom of the check, you owe him your professional loyalty in the work place, do not speak ill of him in public, be trustworthy, do your best work, amd if you leave his employment - burn no bridges. Remember that this job and this employer are a part of your employment history, and even if he is a rat, your next potential employers will not know that, and you sure do not want to try to paint him as an idiot as you apply for work at the next firm you apply for a job at do you?
You are the only one who can make you unhappy - so forget about this "I'm smarter that my boss" nonsense, and do the job your being paid to do, or quit and go work for a boss who you can acknowledge is smarter than you - if that makes you happy. Good luck, I guess.

most people actually do know more about some things than their boss does
bosses are only human
the key is that the boss, if he's good, manages you in a way that he gets the most from you for the benefit of the company
and at the same time grooms you for advancement
being boss doesn't mean you're necessarily smarter than everyone else
it does mean you're good at something and that's probably management, leadership and foresight

Well Siben a lot of people believe they do as well.
What you might be thinking is you know a lot more than your boss ABOUT THE INTRICACIES OF YOUR PARTICULAR JOB.
But do you know how to motivate people, practise Leadership, Solve problems related to all other jobs, Understand Financial statements, analyze key ratios etc..
Hold meetings and delegate and measure work and performance?
My guess is that there's probably a lot of things you don't see about what your boss in accountable for or you would have the position.

I would argue that you are incorrect.
You know what you know, and you don't know what you don't know.
