Because most or all of the matter that makes up our solar system was the product of stellar evolution. The earth, the planets, and EVEN THE SUN ITSELF is composed of the byproducts of supernovae.

Remember that the most massive stars go from birth to supernova in only a few million years. There have been millions of supernova in our galaxy alone since the big bang.

I guess the simplest answer is that IIRC, in a galaxy the size of ours, 1 SN should be expected to occur every couple of years. Given that the universe is some 13 billion years old... well you do the math!!!

Gold is made like any other element other tha Hydrogen. THrough Nuclear fusion. Lighter elements combine to produce heavier elements. GOld is not that uncommon. Uranium, is hard to find. Plutonium is impossible.
