Semantic flamboyant grandiloquence nautical word-name history my friend.Every beautifully detailed grand ship deserves a beautiful womens name ! Leave the guys names to the dingys.I had a beauty of a former fiance' named Diana, and now an even more beautiful wife who's name is also Diana. Hence, Now,I have a awesome boat that is rightfully named ... "Diana # Three".

Because they take you places you've NEVER been to and then sometimes they kill you on the way there or the way back.
It's just a natural extension of the way they are to name them female names. Other times they break down unexpectedly with tragic results.
All in all a very fitting tradition.

Because they are manned by men. Calling a ship by a guy's name would therefore be pretty gay.
