Nestle's Good Start Supreme is the only formula that my baby will eat. She's had only breastmilk for the first 3 moths of her life but I'm getting ready to go back to work and had to start supplementing one or two bottles a day with formula. The other two brands we tried (Similac and Enfamil) she spit out and absolutely refused to eat. I don't blame her, they smelled awful. The Nestle's Good Start doesn't smell nearly as bad as the other ones. It smells almost a little sweet, kinda like breastmilk. So that's what we're sticking with.

Depends on where you are and the brands available. There really is no best brand since by FDA regulations they must be made to the same standards. Milk based formulas are a common cause of colic, and I found that the Good start brand by carnation didnt sit well with my son both the soy and milk based made him spit up. Ive found that is a common complaint among users of that brand. Hes now on enfamils prosobee and is doing quite well. What ever formula you choose to use just make sure it contains adequate levels of DHA/ARA which are amino acids that are important for brain and eye developement. Dont feel bad about not breast feeding as long as your baby gets all the love and attention you can give.....its just sometimes not practical or possible for many people and theres no reason to beat yourself up over it (just had to mention that since I know theres going to be many pro breastfeeding post)

Sorry I don't have an answer to your question but I have also chosen to Formula Feed instead of Breast Feed. I was interested in knowing which would be best but I think it is ridiculous that people will not back off the whole breast feeding issue.
Everyone has the right to choose which is best for them and their baby. And just because we choose to formula feed does not mean that we are simply uneducated on the subject!!!
Obviously we get constantly bombarded by the ongoing criticism.
I'm pretty sure you didn't ask 'Should I Bottle Feed or Breast Feed?'
Sorry but for some reason all the Breast feeding Crap really bugs me!!
We want what's best for our children too and Bottle Feeding DOES NOT make us bad parents!!!!!!!

Enfamil was best for my son. The doctor or hospital will get the baby started on whichever formula they think is best. I chose not to breastfeed my son too. I am amazed by the number of total strangers who would criticize me for this. I wanted to say "Why is this any of your business?" Those nuts would not leave me alone in the grocery store. I hope you are ready for them!
Yep, Note the above answer! My comment to men is that if you want the kid breastfed, you do it! My son has been exclusively formula fed and is very healthy. He has never even had a bad cold! You can be a great Mother and not breastfeed!

Baby formulas are just third rate.
A mothers milk is supreme. Not only does it foster bonding between the mother and baby, but most importantly the baby is protected against infectious diseases. Studies show that exclusive breastfeeding (no water, only pure mother's milk in the first 6 months of life) protects babies from diseases because of the presence of antibodies transferred thru the mother's milk, breastfeeding resuts in smarter children, increased IQ points. Infant foumula do not increase IQ. And for you, breastfeeding will reduce blood loss after childbirth, delay return to fertility (child spacing, natural family planning), and reduces risks for cancers associated with female organs (breasts, ovaries, uterus).
This is not to mention that economically, breastfeeding can save money as the money spent on infant formula can be directed to other needs of the family (like education)
As a woman, I guess it is our natural instinct to give what is great for our babies. And that is to give the best. Our milk.

It is whatever is best for your baby. There are so many different formula's out there. Some babies have to eat the soy kind and some don't. It is really whatever your doctor says is the best.
My son was on carnation good start and done really well on it.

Ask your Pediatrician. (one will see you in the hospital so you can ask right away...also once you give birth, the hospital will give you some formula to get you started).
When I asked, mine said any was really OK, but to make sure it had Iron and then stick with it unless the child seems to react somehow to it.
We used
Similac Advance Infant Formula with Iron which came premixed in a Ready-to-Feed Liquid 32-Ounce Bottles
(premixed rocks!)
It was the brand the hospital started us with, so we stuck with it and had no problems.
Here's a link:

Congratulations on your pending baby!

My wife breastfeed our daughter till she was almost 17 months... and in that time she NEVER got sick... As far as we are concerned formula is poison and should never be used unless there is no other choice possible. If you do have to use formula however there is a brand that is as close to breast milk as any other.... It is called "Mother's Milk"
To the woman below me, we are a couple and not saying that you are a bad mother... We are just stating an opinion just like yours... your the one that seems to be getting on the offensive about it... We both believe that if a women can breastfeed her child, then she should. Studies show that breastfeeding children does wonder's for for their early development. We are just naturalists and believe that breast milk is best. However, you will never be able to convince us that breastfeeding is bad, are you?

look for something with DHA and ARA. the availability of some formula is not the same in every country so find it by yourself.sometimes "your baby" is the one who will decide what is the best for her/him.

The best baby formula would be (x-y)+[2x*y-(z+fy)/3]. But that's just my oppinion.
