start with the largest denomination, and work done..
1. 2 quarters
2. 1 quarter, 2 dimes, 1 nickel
3. 1 quarter, 1 dime, 3 nickels
4. 1 quarter, 5 nickels
5. 4 dimes, 2 nickels
6. 3 dimes, 4 nickels
7. 2 dimes, 6 nickels
8. 1 dime, 8 nickels
9. 10 nickels
10. 5 dimes

Let's say you need x nickels, y dimes
and z quarters to make 50 cents.
x nickels = 5x cents
y dimes = 10y cents
z quarters = 25z cents
Therefore, 5x + 10y + 25z = 50
This can be simplified by dividing through by 5.
x + 2y + 5z = 10
Here, it can be seen that z can only be 0, 1 or 2.
If z = 0, then x + 2y = 10.
.......... Now it can be seen that y can only be 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5.
.......... If y = 0, then x = 10 ..... (1st way is 10n + 0d + 0q)
.......... If y = 1, then x = 8 ..... (2nd way is 8n + 1d + 0q)
.......... If y = 2, then x = 6 ..... (3rd way is 6n + 2d + 0q)
.......... If y = 3, then x = 4 ..... (4th way is 4n + 3d + 0q)
.......... If y = 4, then x = 2 ..... (5th way is 2n + 4d + 0q)
.......... If y = 5, then x = 0 ..... (6th way is 0n + 5d + 0q)
If z = 1, then x + 2y = 5.
.......... Now it can be seen that y can only be 0, 1 or 2.
.......... If y = 0, then x = 5 ..... (7th way is 5n + 0d + 1q)
.......... If y = 1, then x = 3 ..... (8th way is 3n + 1d + 1q)
.......... If y = 2, then x = 1 ..... (9th way is 1n + 2d + 1q)
If z = 2, then x + 2y = 0.
.......... The only solution is if x = 0 and y = 0,
.......... so, (10th way is 0n + 0d + 2q)

Make a formula...but first find how many nickels you have dimes..quarters..etc..

50/5=10
