I'm majoring in Psychology. It seems like every class requires me to constantly write essays. I love to study... memorizing terms, etc... then getting tested. I'm tired of constant research papers. Although I probably won't switch majors (although I'm unsure about my psychology major anyway... don't know if I want to be a psychologist), I'm just curious - which subject requires the least amount of essay writing? Please include how you know this subject requires little writing - do you major in it? Know someone who does? Or simply taken a few classes in it?

Please don't say mathematics - I realize it usually requires no essay writing, but I couldn't stand the idea of majoring in mathematics.

The physical sciences and quantitative disciplines (e.g., chemistry, physics, mathematics, statistics, management science/operations research) all require less writing. But you are trading the writing requirement for areas that are much more analytically demanding. If you are not so inclined, this is not a good bargain to make.

I know because I majored in chemistry as an undergrad and have a Ph.D. in Management Science. I teach statistics and management science/operations research.

P.S. Regarding the advice about communications, this may be a "powder puff" major at this person's college, but think for a minute about getting a degree in "communications" and not being required to actually communicate (albeit in writing). This is not a good bet.

Chemistry has very few papers, except the occasional 1 page paper about a science topic. Same goes for all hard sciences.

But if science isn't your thing, I hear that communications is all multiple choice tests and nothing else.
