I have a new 160G hard drive. I copy everything from my old 60G drive. It works fine for my one computer that I imported all of the data from, but when I try to run it on another it won't work. It says "Error loading Operating System"

I think the problem is that the computer I got the data from has an Pentium4 processor and my other computer has intel celeron.

What can I do?! IS there anyplace i can download something to fix this?

Well everything transfered even the system files and OS. Because if I take out the old hard drive in the computer I transfered the files from it works fine. But when I try to use it in the other computer it doesn't work. I think this may be due to the different processors. I'm not sure. Thanks though.

I think you have the closest answer thus far, but my old computer that shows the error message doesn't have its O.S. saved anywhere. The old hard drive that was in it was ruined. Thats why I tried just copying my other hard drive that is in a new computer. Obviously that isn't working though.

The 160G has an OS on it because it loads this new one fine when it is set as the master. I need to find an OS though for my old computer that has an INtel Celeron chip.

The new drive that you take to another computer where it says Error loading operating system....Does it mean that you have imported the Operating System also?? If thats the case then I am sorry, You have to reload the Operating System here because the operating system that you have imported is configured for the computer where it was originally loaded...And if thats not the case then the computer which shows error message, does it have its own operating system and if the answer is Yes then you just need to make this 160 GB a secondary drive (slave)....And the computer should boot from its original Primary drive without any problem...What I can Understand is that you have copied everything from your old drive to the new and are trying to load the operating system from this new drive to your other computer...It wont work.
Thanks.

Ok, kid here is how it is. Put your old 60 G drive in your new computer. Put it as the master and then use the 160 Gb HDD as the slave. That is what I did. You can not successfully copy an OS system from one computer to another. For files is never a problem. Anyway, you need the disk. Security measures are on OS systems so if you buy Vista Ultimate for $400 you will not be selling copies for a $100. If Vista or Windows did not have this protection how many people besides me, oops, I meant how many dishonest people would sell cheap copies to friends. Of course, I would never do that. lol That is why they sell keys for.

But did you know that google OEM and you can "LEGALLY" buy a n OEM copy now. The Supreme Court says it is legal. IF you subscribed for free to pcworld.com you would know this. So if nothing else, buy Windows XP OEM, but shop around as all prices are different. You just do not get the fancy boxes.

that's because when it was in the old computer it was a slave drive with no operating system on it.... so you have transferred all your files with out installing windows on the new hard drive.... what you should have done is take out your old hard drive, then installed windows on the new one... then put the old hard drive in as a slave and then transferred all your data....

changing your hard drives had nothing to do with the CPU.. it could be a Pentium, Celeron or AMD and it wouldn't make a difference.... I've had a look around for you and here's what i have found....

This issue may occur if your computer BIOS does not correctly manage or support the capacity of the hard disk on which you are installing Windows XP.

so take a look at the link and see if this helps you out

Try booting from the drive everything works on. If you have two separate computers put both drives in the same computer, and install Partition Magic. Copy the partition from the old drive and place it on the new drive. If this seems like the wrong answer trying being more specific in your question.
