I am an American and I am not trying to be offensive in any way....so please just answer what you truly feel.

I think today our country cares less about intelligece, and more about money, and looks. Now a days, it seems like people no longer want to be Scientists, or Doctors, they don't really care what they do, as long as it gets them money....and then who will find cures for diseases?

Yes..we've been dumbed down by a technology overload, we work so many hours that our children get neglected and use the technology to learn how to behave.
Yes..America is vain..always looking for the "bigger, better, stronger, faster" in life and not caring about who they step on to get it.
AND, we are very arrogant and cannot see the degradation of our once fine country because our eyes are blinded by patriotism...
Thats my rant....I'm a duel-ly!

Unfortunately, our generation seems to be heading the corporate way. I don't think that we are getting "less intelligent". I really believe that most of the modern American today has change it view in morals. The man that dies with the most toys win!

Most people in America forget that the man that dies with the most toys still dies. Our view of success has changed completely. Before the American Dream was just to work 40hrs and play the rest. Spend time with family and what not. However, today's view is to get to the top fast and get use to hurting people on the way to the top. Great example is reality shows where people eat maggot filled cheese for $50,000.00.

Are we getting less intelligent. No! We are just getting less self respect. But the truth be told, money is what makes the world turn now-a-days and Americans know how to make money, the fastest. The doctors are out there and so are the scientists. They are just the children of our current doctors and scientist.

Definitely. And to prove the point, you misspelled "intelligent" :) , although I'm sure others will point this out as well. The fact is, it just isn't acceptable to be intelligent in America, unless you're a nerdy science type or computer geek. The ideal models for the masculine and feminine in our society are the coarse, apathetic, beer-guzzling, sports-obsessed male and the loud, slutty, top-heavy female. Intellectuals are pushed to the fringe. The concept of the Renaissance man is dead.

I think that American's are still intelligent, but more selfish, so they aren't pursuing careers that help people as much. This isn't the case with all Americans, but there have been recent statistics that teenagers main goals are to be wealthy, and second is to be famous. Those are some pretty crappy goals if you ask me.

Yes and I think reality shows have eroded the intelligence level more than anything, along with junk food, TV in general, and the media telling us unless we look like Catherine Zeta Jones or George Clooney, we're nothings.

They were never overly intelligent to start with - look at the way they treated the native Americans or the blacks or their women. Now it is worse.

Nope, and I offer as proof, everybody wants to come here. We got asians, mexicans, south americans, french, arabs, and so many others I cant name them all. If the place was a melting pot of morons, why would so many come from around the world to study in our universities, and try to stay here to enjoy what we have?

We are getting smarter, but not as fast as some other countries. There is a loss off importance it seems to research, but this could be due to a rising "elite" group, to were one must know so much to take one step inside research.
