Deep heat and very gradual stretching if it is just a pull. Be careful to stretch and warm up completely (till sweating) before any further exercise to avoid a tear. If it is a severe pull or tear the only "cure" is rest/inactivity for three to six weeks.

Immediate treatment includes rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE). Attach a 5 pound weight to the foot on the injured side and lie face down on a bed With the lower part of the body (from the waist down) off the bed and the toes touching the floor. Keeping the knee straight, slowly raise and lower the leg. Do 3 sets of 10 every other day. As strength returns, use increasingly heavier weights. This exercise strengthens primarily the upper part of the hamstrings. I hope this helps you. And good luck.

To prevent it.. Make sure you stretch before your workout.. To treat it, you will need to use the icy hot and heat. If possible, rest in bed for a day or two.
