I am a 9th grader trying to figure out what to do with my life. I have a career in mind, but I like to keep my options open so I need your help.

1) I classify myself as a creative person. I like to step back, look at what the results of my creativity, and feel good about the fruits of my labours.

2) I am the math/science type of person.

3) I have excellent grades, and I will be going to university.

4) I am very mentally driven and innovative. I like to think of new ideas.

5) I like to impress. This would be my greatest motivation.

Thx in advance!

Hmm...Dear it seems that you should be an engineer, architect, industrial designer or artist of any type... I'd say industrial design or architecture...

I would have to suggest Laboratory Technician. Although it is the case that at many places that employ Lab Techs all they do is just sample in, sample out all day long. However there are for the few and the determined jobs that are far from this. An example is a research lab, where although it may be testing of samples for a long time the results will always be surprising to those who know who to read them.

I have been a Lab tech for a few years now (it was the only thing that I wanted to be) and I have worked in the Sample in, Sample out labs. But I am now working with a great team of highly skilled people in an environmental research laboratory and it is the best job that I could have hoped for, mostly because I am not stuck inside all day long.

And although it is true that there has been a stigma over Lab Techs of 'nerds' (or alike), this stigma does not last much after high school. And the part that I like I get to call myself a scientist, I like that.

Hope this helps you decide, but by the sounds of it you won’t have any problems whichever career you choose.

We can't tell you what you should do. We don't know you. Do what you love! Get into something that interests you. You have so many options available based on your description: creative, innovative, mathematically & scientifically inclined with high grades, a strong drive and a desire to impress. The world is your oyster! You could do anything. Just decide what you want & go for it! Be a scientist or mathematician. Work with computers, engineering. Be an inventor. Be a doctor. You could use your skills just about anywhere!

Good luck! Keep up the good work! Remember you don't have to decide yet what you want to do with your life. Keep your options open. It may become more clear to you once you're in university.

because you mentioned the creative side first, I would suggest going into something creative. With the math / science knowledge you could definately go into architechture, there is a bit of all there. The science factor could include environmental impacts, environmental choices for building design. The math would obviously come into place with building sizes, and there is creativity in abundance.

Your greatest motivation would come when clients are really impressed with your designs, and then people actually get to see it. Imagine the accolades if you won an design award.

I think this career, or something along these lines would definately cater to the criteria you mentioned above. Remember to always try something you enjoy, afterall you spend a great deal of time working. Good luck!

You have made a good start. Concentrate on school, and as you go be as inquisitive as you are now, and you will find what makes you happy.
Math people, like us, have a great apptitude for languages and computers. The corrolate those on the tests you will be taking.
You have all the choices ahead, you don't have to make them now.

You might do a process of elimination, what do you not want to do?????
If you must ponder it, the library will tell you which careers are the most successful in money.
It was occupational therapy 10 years, ago, now HMOs don't want to pay them.
It's marketing this year. Look at what areas you would have the most opportunities for help to succeed.
No one, can really judge what will make you happy to go to work, everyday. But I know a lot of people that figured that out. Work, Work, Work, and you will find what you love.
I think you have the right start, and you should wait to make a decision, until you meet and experiance some career choices, before making up your mind.
How can you choose what you don't know about yet??

From the way you phrased your question, I gather you are a high school student, and an intelligent and curious one at that.

I suggest you not worry about "focusing on a career." I don't mean that you shouldn't focus. Just that you shouldn't get dead set on becoming a Lawyer or Doctor or Database Administrator, without periodically reassessing your interests and strengths.

Foster your curiosity and creativity. What will differentiate you in the job market and when dating is how innovative and capable at adapting to new situations you are. You can't know what to expect from your career in 40 years. You will probably have multiple careers in your lifetime. Even physicians are finding more personal satisfaction and financial reward from diversifying their career later in life.

If you are looking for a recession-proof, outsourcing-proof profession, look to nursing.

Be a music teacher. There is a great demand for teachers, especially teachers specializing in music. You will never be out of a job, you can travel and chose from primary, middle school and high school. In some Uni's you do not need to know anything about music. They teach you from scratch - including your chosen instrument which your voice is also classed as an instrument. I am doing a double degree currently and love it. 2 years music, 2 years education. Also maths students pick it up better because of all the counting of notes and general rhythm

If I were you, I would look into being an entrepeneur. I would suggest going into business for yourself. Impress your clients and/or customers not your boss. Too many great minds go unnoticed these days. You sound like you have a creative and logical (math and science) side to you. Suggest ... web designer. This will give you the ability to suggest logical workflow while using your creative side to design websites. Suggest taking a business class when in college.

I would suggest that you take a few aptitude tests to channel your direction. And I also would advise that you don't need to figure out what you are going to do for the rest of your life at this time - most people end up changing careers (I knew someone who retired at the age of 62 and still didn't know what he wanted to be when he grew up!) I try to advise young people to get your degree - it doesn't matter what it is in, but getting a second degree or higher one in a field that you've never heard of yet but find out you LOVE later on in life is much easier than starting at the beginning! Hope you find something that you LOVE to do and best of luck to you!

Forest Service Ranger. They do a lot of Science and Math things, they are payed well and have excellent benifits. On top of that they are good for the environment, and that is impressive. You could also go into a Biology field where you specialize in something like studying the habbitats of Wolves and their life cycles. I wish you luck in your search.

you should be a nurse. snice you like science & math & you need to be good at both. ecspecially algerbra, geomtry, biology, & chemistry. thats what im doing. it also pays good. but yet if you dont like schooling idk what would be good for you. becuase nursing requires at least 8 years out of high school. so... you also need to take 3 years of forgein lanaguage to have a higher chance of becoming a nurse. this is what im doing & i already have my classes for next year picked out. im gunna be a freshmen next year & snice i have good grades im the biology instead of physical science so i am already a year ahead in becoming a nurse. i just have to hope to get spanish 1 for my elective class next year. =]
