Ronald Reagan's administration gave us the greatest economic growth of any President since the industrial revolution. Even Clinton's administration and, to some extent the Bush administration, benefited from his tax cuts. Further, his SDI program effectively brought the Soviet Union to its end.
However, Richard Nixon ended the Viet Nam war. The war that was primarily the creation of two democrats; Kennedy and Johnson. Nixon was exposed for doing what many politicians do almost daily. Hillary has had campain fund raising scandals that were criminal but met by the media as "ho, humm", Harry Ried is currently involved in a criminal investigation which is virtually unreported by the press, Ted Kennedy should still be serving time for murder and on and on.... Nixon was trampled on by the media, particularly Cronkite, in order to get him out of office. The truth is, breaking into a campaign headquarters is a far less infraction than any of those previously mentioned. Also, lets not forget Bill Clinton who was guilty of Obstruction of Justice but not prosecuted (but was disbared) and the case of Sandy Burger's document theft to cover up the Clinton's incompetence. Longer history will probably reveal Nixon as one of our great Presidents. Reagan is already a legend, even among democrats.

I grew up in a relatively moderate home in an extremely liberal state - Wisconsin. I was too young to vote for Nixon. I did, however, campaign door-to-door with other high schoolers for McGovern in '72. I bought in hook, line & sinker to the whole liberal idea of Nixon as the anti-christ.
I voted for Carter in 1980. It was my first presidential election; I was 21 years old. I was in the military, and believed what we were told: that a vote for Reagan would be a vote for another protracted war.
By 1984 I had begun to read and research more, and believe less in what I was told by friends and in college. I voted for Reagan.
Over the intervening years I have come to realize that there is no such thing as a perfect president, or a perfect leader of any kind. Each has had his good points and his bad.
Nixon was no better and no worse than any other president. He re-established US-China relations. He brought us out of Vietnam.
He presided over a nation that was intensely distrustful of the government, and that was sharply divided along lines of race, age, and income. In the end he fell victim to his desire for control.
Reagan was a master of the art of surrounding himself with the best possible advisors. He had a rock solid vision of what he wanted for the country, and he was reluctant to deviate from that goal in any way. His policies of military strength and fiscal conservatism paved the way for the American resurgence of the 1990's.
The short answer to your question, given what I have learned over the past 25 years, is that I would proudly vote for either of them.

Wasn't alive interior the 'sixty 8-'ninety 2 Presidential elections, couldn't vote in '96, '00, '04, or '08 yet when I were alive for the time of those elections, right it truly is how i'd've voted: 'sixty 8: probable may;ve voted Nixon because the Vietnam conflict bitterly divided the Democratic celebration. 'seventy 2: McGovern 'seventy six: Carter, although i'd've regretted no longer balloting for Ford as Carter cleared the course for Reagan 'eighty: Carter, as a vote hostile to Reagan. 'eighty 4: Mondale '88: trust it or no longer, Bush. Dukakis develop right into a poor candidate and Bush develop into extra lifelike than Reagan. 'ninety 2: Clinton '96: Clinton '00: Gore '04: As undesirable as he may've been, Kerry '08: Obama '12: this develop into my first election and that i voted Obama

For Republicans only, exclamation point, says it all. "My mind is made up, don't confuse me with facts." When exactly did that state of mind actually become common enough to be considered trite and cliche?
Now, if you had asked, who would you rather shoot? That would have made for an interesting question.
