I'm 15 and I'm looking for a laptop thats not that expensive... at the most, $750. because I'm not a gamer. But i want to be able to watch some movies so a DVD player would be nice. and a CD player. and a pretty recent program (like XP) so i can take it around for powerpoint and microsoft word. So basically, I want a laptop thats not too big, can play CDs and DVDs, and is efficient. (cool looking would be a plus but not a necessity)

... actually, the DVD player is also a plus. not a necessity. ... nor is the CD player. but that might be really necessary for file transfer ^ ^;;

Well depending on where u want to use Ur laptop for DVDs u could buy a note book or a laptop. Now a laptop is meant for performance. It is serious business looking high battery life high performance and well... out of Ur price range. So best go for an apple note book or a Toshiba note book having low performance but enough for Ur requirement of DVD play. But u should consider the fact that a note book has low battery life and if u want to watch the movies while traveling in a car or something it would be bad as the battery would run out but if u want to use it at home for movies u can plug it in and not worry about battery. depends on Ur use.

Yer, you can get laptops like that for a really cheap price these days. I cannot really reccommend anything, as the prices and types vary around the world (i live in australia). But DELL is normally a good place for cheap, reliable computers, with cd and dvd capabilities.

If not, just get a portable dvd player. They play cds, and dvds, and they looks good. However they dont have word and powerpoint =(

Good luck =)

OK Lisa the Pizza girl. lol

First go to pcworld.com and cnet.com and search and read the articles about how to buy a laptop.

Just a tip - laptops with dual layer drives cost more. But then how many people want to spend $6 for ONE disk to burn on a DL disk. Not me. Try to get one with the core 2 dual. If you friend has a laptop with the one core chip than of course his might outperform yours in some areas (like a lot) but then when they start bring out the dual core games and applications you will leave him behind in a blaze of dust. Your laptop will be ready for the next 3-5 years. Also laptop insurance. Before you buy it check with the manufacture on how much it is. HP insurance for my desktop covers if I run over it, spill coffee on it, whereas Circuit City insurance does not cover coffee spills and HP was CHEAPER too. Of course the only drawback was you had to mail it back, but to me that is worth it. So save your box that the laptop comes in, in case you ever need to mail it back for repairs.
Then check the Sunday papers for deals. Check the stores on line too cuz sometimes they have Internet deals cheaper than the store prices. If you have one with a rebate send it in RIGHT AWAY. You have like 15 days to send it in or you lose it. One of the stores had a Toshiba Satellite for sale for around $700 but what was good was that it came with 1 Gb of memory but expandable to 4 Gb. Which later you will find invaluable. That way with 4 Gb you could play music, and use Word without skipping a step. Anyway, read stuff in the two sites first before you buy so you will know what to buy.
