He ran three oil exploration countries into bankruptcy (Arbusto, Spectrum 7 & Harken Energy). He then acquired a 1% stake in the Texas Rangers and was called a "general partner" in spite of his puny share. After voters in Arlington, TX voted to give the Rangers a stadium at taxpayer expense, Bush walked away with a profit of millions.
After that, he was elected Governor of Texas twice. The governor in Texas is the fourth most powerful office in the state, trailing Lt. governor, attoney general, and comptroller. In that role, Bush kissed babies and cut ribbons at mall openings before he was marketed for the 2000 Repub nomination. Oh, and as Gov. of Texas he set the record as the public official responsible for the most executions in the history of these United States.
P.S. If you really want to be nauseated, read Tucker Carlson's (conservative TV host) account of how Bush playfully mocked a female inmate that was executed. Her name was Karla Faye Tucker; no relationship to Tucker Carlson. Recall that this is a CONSERVATIVE journalist giving this account.

Well, he had become the only individual ever named by Amnesty International as a threat against humanity for his Texas prison population (one out of every nine Texans) and for how many people he executed. Did I mention that Cheney's Halliburton has most of those prison management contracts? Sweet.
