a monthly car payment, a first mortgage, or a second mortgage?

I agree with all post... cept the last one. In short...never ever ever ever if at possible, go delinquent on your mortgage. A mortgage late will impact you negatively the most. Lenders will forgive and in many cases over-look a one time occurrence delinquency on installment accounts, but a mortgage late can increase your rate for a refi considerably. if you must go late on your mortgage, just make certain you pay it in full before the end of the month it is due. This includes all late fees.

A car is the easiest to negotiate a non delinquent mark on your credit. Just ask the creditor to roll the past due amount to the back of your loan. if you have had good pay history in the past the will be more likely to accommodate you on this.

Of course, none of the above. But, if you absolutely have to pay one late, I would suggest the car payment. Only because a mortgage payment that is late can seriously affect your ability to refinance the mortgage or get a new mortgage, more so than a car payment.

If possible, contact the loan company for which ever you choose, explain any mitigating circumstances, before the payment is due. If they make a note of this in your file, at least it shows you are being responsible and alerting them to the late payment in advance.

Neither of those are a good selection. All three are directly related to how you credit scores are on your credit report. All three of the debts you named are reported directly to your credit reports.

The best debts to be behind on are your utility bills as long as you keep abreast of them.

These debts are not reported to the credit bureaus.

It is best not to be behind in any of your debts, but if push comes to shove, these are the ones I would select to call, make arrangements with and be late.

I hope this has been of some use to you, good luck.
