It makes me feel depressed and sad hearing everyday about tragic stories happening all over the place. I just have to turn it off.

I try to ignore the news on TV anymore. I will check Yahoo's Most Popular, but I will only read the "good" stories. I have absolutely stopped reading anything about the war in Iraq. I have only read the headlines about the astronaut woman.
It may seem like I just avoid the bad news, but its really not that way. I just don't like being bombarded by it all of the time.

I certainly do skip the news, for four reasons.
One is the sick, unusual and ugly stuff news editors
choose to feature as "news."
Two is their avoidance of any scientific definitions.
Third is the way they show graphically revolting pictures,
of anything, while avoiding asking the question, "What
is it important that every citizen hears and knows about?"
Fourth I consider it the worst fact about public tv news--
that reporters nowadays do not separate false beliefs
from facts, standards-based judgments from crazed
opinions and category-level proofs from stupid opinions.
They also support the idea of an imperial presidency
instead of modest and dedicated protectors of
individuals' rights. That's their worst danger.
This is not news, non-fictional information, nor
useful valuable facts of any sort.
I never listen to "local news". And I find myself
avoiding the other sort except for Sunday interviews
shows of McNeil-Lehrer.

Balance. Can't walk around without any clue as to what is going on in the world. But won't sit in front of the tv all day and night watching news either.

No I like reading the news though I usually don't read about mothers killing their babies. I like the stuff about politics best.

It's depressing, but it IS the truth. It's not good to purposely be ignorant. You may need to know something on the news!

Yes I'm the same way and I won't watch it like three or four hours before I go to bed or I dream out it.
