I'll take the example of the corporate world, which, at least in America, is truly where the $'s at. The people who succeed, and climb up the promotion ladder are the ones with the distinct set of social skills which allows them to engage in productive conversation with their colleagues and create a sense of comfort in every room that they walk into. Sometimes its not even the smart ones that ascend the ladder to corporate paradise; still, its the combination of intellectual smarts and social smarts that wins in the modern world.
