Yes, I keep them around. There are a multitude of uses for them. (I would not use the same used toothbrushes for everything--have a multitude for specific purposes.)
a. clean crevices around faucets
b. clean grout lines and around tub
c. clean dog's teeth
d. clean out the crevices in and around the small radiator in the bathroom
e. clean the neck of small flower vases, it's about the olny thing that will fit inside some that alread has a built in scrubber
f. cleaning various vents
g. use a toothbrush to scrub imbedded stains with a laundry pretreater before washing
h. clean silver and brass bric-a-bracs
i. after a day of sewing with a material that sheds a lot (for example cotton, corduroy, etc...) I have a toothbrush specifically for burshing out the feeddogs on my sewing machine
j. a different toothbrush can be used to clean the inside mechanical parts of a sewing machine (the areas that need cleaned as well as oiled)
k. clean jewelry
l. clean combs, and the larger toothed styling brushes, great way to remove the hairspray build up out of a brush--the type that you do not want to toss into the washer
m. you can use them to clean out imbeded dirt out of the bottom of shoes
n. If you do mechanical work, a used toothbrush is great to have on hand, it allows you to remove the grease from around your fingernails, or out of your callouses on your hands.
Now the abovementioned were uses for the traditional used manual toothbrush. If you are like me and also have some of the cheaper electronic ones (the ones that didn't have the replacable heads) There is also a multitude of uses for these...
a. The best one being--Use them for polishing your silver bric-a-brac items (No not the silverware--just your knick knacks.
b. They also make quick work of bathroom cleaning jobs.
Now that above was just the cleaning uses for used toothbrushes. Being a multimedia artist, the uses for toothbrushes are endless. I will list only a few--so you get the idea.
a. For polymer clay and other such activities--they make great texturing tools
b. In painting, you can apply the paint to the bristle tips, then run your fingernail across--this sprays the paint onto your canvas, paper, etc... A great effect.
c. Also, you can use them as a paint brush in itself--you get a very unusual effect painting with them. Great for pine trees!!!
d. If you modify your used toothbrush--which is a technique that several rug artists do--because there is no exact replica of the tool on the market. You need to remove the brush section, then you either sharpen or use a dremmel type tool to create a point on what had been the brush end. Now you have a needle type tool, the older style that had a hole in the opposite end are better, because if they do not have the hole, then you need to screw in an eylet type screw. (This tool is often used in creating a rug that somewhat resembles a braided rug, but it is not exactly a braided rug.)
e. Instead of paint, you can use it to apply "pixie dust" to a piece.
f. Create designs in plasterwork, brush off excess plaster
Well, I better stop for now.

Yes, i do keep it for household use...for behind the sink, under the taps, most places too small to reach, like those places that are too small to get at with just your finger and a cloth.

Yes I do. I use them for scrubbing tennis shoes or cleaning those hard to reach places around the sinks, or scrubbing stained laundry.

I've kept a few in my days! I use it as a fingernail brush, and as a ring (jewelry) cleaner. It works great to remove dried up lotion between prongs on my rings.
