There's only one band that gets compared to everyone else. That band is the Beatles.
They wrote their own songs.
They played their own instruments.
They sang their own songs.
They have more number 1 songs than any other artist.
They've sold more albums than any other artist.
Not only are they in the RNR Hall Of Fame, three of the four were also inducted as solo artists.
They recorded the first punk-rock song (Birthday).
They recorded the first heavy metal song (Helter Skelter).
They recorded the most covered song in music history (Yesterday).
They released the fastest song to reach the number 1 position on the Billboard charts (Can't Buy Me Love).
They performed the biggest Billboard hit of the entire decade of the sixties. (Hey Jude, nine weeks at #1)
The impact the Beatles had on the world can never be understated. They were so big, they even had the hypochristians burning their records. Who else did that?
AND, they did it all in only 8 years (1963 - 1970).
The Beatles will be discussed, remembered and honored until the end of mankind. The only other band I can think of that MIGHT share that honor would be U2. But, U2 are not the Beatles.

The Beatles. The most innovating probadly Zeppelin and Cream on guitar work. Chuck Berry the one you stump into playing with double notes on the neck, so I had to add him too. Without Chuck Berry influence Zeppelin, Stones, CCR would all sound different as would thousand other bands.

Nirvana...Not my fave. If you think about it today the most influential band in music has been..... Led Zeppelin. They were experimental, all band members were/are exceptional musicians (John Bonham R.I.P). Songs like Black Dog, Immigrant Song, Kashmir, and tons of others. If you listen to music now adays you'll see the influence.
