I know this sounds to easy or crazy, but depending on the year model and make, i have came across the fuel cap on these newer cars are enough to set the check engine light off and cause a car to have the same symtoms u r havn. so many realtime sensors running even leavn my car running while i fuel up i can hear the car almost die a few seconds after takn the cap off.

Sounds like a carburetor linkage problem.Check for vacuum leaks on all vacuum hoses and repair.Could be vacuum leak to MAP sensor. What year of vehicle do you have? What size engine? The carburetor may be in need of replacement.
