As you probably already know, you can have a poem that rhymes, or one that doesn't. This is an important decision because with a humerous poem, you want to keep the mood and rhythm very upbeat, so rhyming can help with that.
Your material can be whatever you want as long as it's funny, you could use an existing joke... but personally when reading humerous poems I tend to go for poems that tell a story about something funny.
If it's a humerous poem for children, remember that kids find a lot of things funny that adults wouldn't even notice, so keep it simple.
If you're struggling to find "funny" material, just think of the things you have found amusing in the past, like something someone said that left you in stitches, or something really embarassing that happened to you that other people may have laughed at, and try to expand on that and turn it into a joke or a story. After you have your basic story, try to pace it into a poetic "frame" so it sounds more like a poem than a story. If you are going to make it rhyme, just make the rhythm on each line the same and use a theasaurus to find different words for the ones you originally used, that rhyme appropriately.
All this sounds complicated, but once you do it you'll probably find it's a lot easier than it sounds.
Good luck, hope this has helped.

When you are writing a humorous poem, first you must think of funny moments...something humorous that happen in your life.
Start of with a normal plot...like what a person normally do when he wakes up from bed. As your poem goes, add in a little humour here and there. Make that normal day of the person "different".
Ok....like for example, a person have a crush on this girl he always see at his window of his office. As normal, the person would describe about what he was attracted to her (i.e. her walk, her eyes, her innocence.). So as a normal person does, he decided to get to know her....by following her to her favourite place...like a cafe (maybe "stalking is a bad word to say). And as he was sitting adjacent to her in the cafe, any normal person would know that the only way for her to take notice of you is by striking a conversation. But, being extremely shy, the person just sits and observe. When she went to the ladies to refresh herself....the unexpected thing happen. Subconsciously, he did the most weirdest thing. He went over to her table and purposely stole her purse. For him, his strategy of getting close to her, is to steal her purse and later call her up saying that he "found" her purse and would like to return it to her.
A simple action for a normal person to ask a girl on a date, became a complicated mission for this guy.

If your school has a Talisman club you can ask anyone who is a member for an example. They put things like that in the Talisman mag. at the end of the year. I would give you a grea example but I dont have my book here.

Think of a joke that you know, then tell it in the form of a poem. Or make up a joke or find one online.

think of the thought you want to write about.
start by putting down the first line. then think of the second line and what rhymes. if nothing rhymes then re-do either your first or second line. and so on...
hope it helped.

No one can tell you how to do this. You can or you can't. If you have to ask, consider that you can't and leave it at that.
