Does the fan run a lot? If you put your hand near the fan, can you feel air coming out?

I had a problem with a toshiba notebook shutting down on its own, and it was because it was overheating. I cleaned the heatsink, and the problem went away.

It might also be a problem with your hard drive or motherboard, though. If your fan moves air just fine, then it's probably one of those. You may need a new laptop.

Toshiba notebooks always seem to have a lot of problems. You can try recharging it or possibly check if you need to replace the battery (20-75 dollars) altogether. If it is wireless see if your wireless card is faulty ( recommend going to a computer shop). Or, lastly and most time consuming, save everything and back up your files on a separate source (flashdrive) and reformat your whole computer (Caution: if you decide to do this make sure you have the reformat CD that came with your top. Mine had a similar problem turned out to be the wireless card.

If the battery is not dead and/or its plugged into the wall it could be a heat issue. Dust over time sticks and builds up in the heatsinks not allowing for proper ventilation. This is indicated with a high speed and very noisy fan. When the computer gets too hot it protects itself by shutting down before it goes into nuclear meltdown.

For a simple attempt at resolving this, when the computer is cooled down take a can of dusting air and direct the air through the cooling ports. When the computer is on you can feel the path of air with your hands. If it seems to work but the fans are still running at high speed, its time to take the laptop in for a professional to open and completely clean it out.

Sounds like you have a virus hijacking your browser. In three minutes you can't do much about it, since you probably can't even find it that fast. Try a few times to run the Ad-Aware, or whatever cleaner you have, but if it's not working any longer after a couple tries you will have to get a computer tech.

If your battery is not charged it will shut down. You should also check your settings, you may have set it to shut down after three minutes, you should be able to change it. Also run some antivirus scans.
