It's not YOU, it's definitely THEM.
Rush was an amazing band for having only three members. Neil Peart was the best drummer ever. Let's not forget Yes and Emerson, Lake and Palmer....alas...those days are gone.

I hate today's music. At least back in the 70's they were discreet about the sexual stuff! And you just don't have those good old dedication songs anymore. Kids just want to dance. It's either ghetto and disgusting or it's emo and annoying. Everything is so monotonous nowadays. And it's always negative. I miss the days when hiphop was fun (that was on Def Poetry). Now there's Parental Advisory stickers on every cd. And I miss R&B singers who actually had talent and not just a pretty face/body. No one has greatest hits cds anymore. Acapella is a thing of the past. Groups have gone straight down the drain. Everything they do is a remake of a song from the 70's. No one is going to want to remake 50 Cent in the future . . .
I do like some music today (for dancing or catchy hooks), but mostly NeoSoul since that's the closest thing we have to good music.

I agree. I think with today's technology it's getting easier for bands to get themselves noticed, where before record companies only picked the best of the best. Though, don't get more wrong, there are still some great artists out there with some real talent. They are just hidden beneath all junk that's getting thrown around.
Though, despite that. As long as people listen to the music, there is fanbase and as long as there is a fanbase, you can expect to hear the music.

If you take all the new bands on average, it's you.
If you take all the airtime that new bands are getting, it's them (or moreover the record companies, MTV etc.).
There's plenty of melody out there in today's music, just some of the awful stuff is getting played more. Dig around, go to some music festivals...

You are right. Now it has gotten to the point that I don't hardly listen to the radio or buy any Cd's because I do not understand the words in the songs. I get tired of have to listening to the same song three times just to make out the words and to buy a CD just for one song. For once I would like to buy a CD for all the songs on it. Not just one song.

It's just you.
Really though, honestly, it's not. I don't think artists now even attempt to find a song while screaming about how horrible their lives are and how badly this, that and the other are going. Don't get me wrong, there are a few absolutely wonderful new bands but... that's a few bands in a pool of thousands.

I agree with you. It's hard to find a good tune. Regina Spektor uses her voice beautifully. Sufjan Stevens is bringing back traditional music.

I agree. It used to be that a song had to have substance, lyrically and musically, to be considered for air play. Not to mention that singers used to be required to carry a tune. Now all you need is "sex appeal" if you're a woman, and men can sing what they want, as long as they use their songs to rant and rave about their personal political beliefs. Yawn.

Not me. But my daughter slams it hard enough the first time. One more episode of that nonsense and the door comes off the hinges until I feel like putting it back up.

i also agree.
but there are a few very melodic new bands out there( not my favoriite, but I acknowledge their talent) for example, Sigur Ros, Muse.
In general though, lack of talent dominates.
