Tom Hicks, who could have used this money to sign a pitching staff for the Texas Rangers, has instead purchased an English soccer team. This is the straw that has broken the camel's back. It's clear that Hicks could care less about the Rangers winning. Therefore, I need a new team to follow. Preferably one with an owner who has shown commitment to winning, but who doesn't have so much money that rooting for them "is like rooting for the house in Blackjack." This rules out the Yankees and Red Sox, so please don't suggest them. This is a serious question, and I would like answers to be backed up with evidence. If I choose your answer as the best, your team will have a new loyal supporter for the upcoming baseball season.

Update:
Thanks to all who took this seriously and put in some time. I was also impressed by the guy who argued for the Mets, but since the Mets are such a high profile team, I'd feel too much like I was jumping on a bandwagon by rooting for them.

Definately its got to be the Athletics of Oakland. We do it right, build our own teams, don't overpay, build through development and draft, not like these other teams that have totally ruined baseball like the Yankees. When we take the title it will be earned not bought. A's for life bitches!

I think you should join me in rooting for the Mets.. and not merely because they aren't the Yankees... My cheering for the Met's started a few years back. A loyal Expos fan, my friends and i had made the 2 hour drive to Montreal's Big-O to see a weekend series with the Met's. We arrived early to take in batting practice.. when i wasn't looking a heat-seeking foul ball off the bat of Roberto Alomar pegged me square in the chest.. After hitting a couple more balls and finishing his session Robbie A. trots over to see if i was alright, apologized for pegging me and offers to sign the ball that hit me.
Once the Expos left Montreal I decided not to follow them to Washington but to be a Met's fan.. and am i ever glad of my decision.. Omar Minyana is the most dedicated owner in baseball.. He has organized a team balanced with prospects and veterans from Pedro and Beltran to Reyes and Wright,(the best left side in baseball) They have been knocking on the doorstep for the last couple of years, and believe me this will be that year.. You might as well jump on now.. and enjoy the ride.. it's going to be a good one.

I'll start with the easiest reason, one of convenience. If you went to Spring Training to watch the Rangers, you would go to Surprise and watch the Rangers in what has to be the best ballpark in the Phoenix area now to go catch a game. And they share that witht he Royals. Unfortunately, the Royals are a bad team. Instead, the next ballpark over is in Peoria - home of the Mariners and Padres.
I am a die-hard Padres fan and my reasons go beyond growing up in San Diego. There have been some losign seasons, but they seem to attract managers that players want to play for. Which makes the players play harder and try harder to please not only the coaches, but the fans as well.
And, if nothing else, San Diego has great weather. San Diego is referred to as America's Finest City! Go Padres - see y'all in Peoria!

I personally like the Houston Astros, but I would say the Flordia Marlins deserve some good fans. They have a horrible owner, but yet somehow continue to win games. They had a great young coach last year that was let go, but the team is always in good spirits, just a great baseball loving team. Go with the fish man!!!

that's a sprint a good distance fetched, yet Im going with speedy city, SD. I chosen them simply by fact i think of there is definitely no group represented interior the Northern component of the Midwest. you have have been given Minnesota to the east, Kansas city to the South, then you've have been given Colorado Rockies and Seattle to the west. yet who do those states might desire to assist? North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, or Iowa. who's their group? in case you place a collection in speedy city, SD, then consistent with probability you will possibly desire to seize followers from those states to assist the stadium. certainly there are followers interior the Midwest who love baseball. So i could positioned a MLB group in speedy city, and get in touch with them the speedy city Rush. RR
