Paris is a world class city and a must see.Like NY, you could spend 2 weeks there and never be bored. Nice is also very nice. Wonderful museums, a Roman archeological site (open to the public), and the scenery (e.g. the ocean) is beautiful. St. Malo is a small village known for it's association with Joan of Arc. Great if you want to see an old town (but it is a small town). French ppl go to Calais in the summer, but I suspect that it is a quiet place for ppl to relax and probably isn't "vibrant" like a big city.

Paris of course, full of interesting monuments. If you like old castles, go to the Loire Valley and visit dozens of medieval castles. South is very nice too: Nice, Cannes, Marseilles. Strasbourg in the East, near the German border is a nice city too. Toulouse, Aix-en-Provence, Annecy are all lovely places as well...
